Burger King and C**ks

Okay, Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. You got me. I can't help but mention Burger King's promotion of their new Chicken Fries by tying in with the clearly fictitious band Coq Roq (pronounced cock rock, in case you weren't sure). Did you really think putting www.coqroq.com at the bottom of your national television advertising was in good taste? Did you really have no idea the site would read "Groupies love the Coq"? Of course you didn't. That's why you did it. Because you know it will create controversy and buzz. Aren't you clever. Thank God my four-year-old son can't read yet.

The more I think about it, I think Burger King really sucks. So maybe the whole idea is appropriate after all.

I'm no prude and a strong beleiver in freedom of speech, but BK has once again takin an ad campaign to the edge. I thought the subserviant chicken campaign was risky, this coqroq "thing" ( I refuse to call it a campaign)is way over the edge.

Congratulations BK! Coq Roq Fries, the new food porn aimed at youth! Why not just come out with coq roq happy meals with an assortment of condoms as a prize! Ya. Biggie that to go! *groan*

I'm not surprised- BK has completely lost their focus. Well, that is unless they want to sell primarily to the 16-24 male group. Like you Kathy, they've alienated the mothers (and fathers) who have the choice of where to take their kids for happy meals- and I can bet it won't be for coq roq. Who wants to subject their kids to that?

First TV went down the drain, then the news media, now advertising. It's like a bunch of 14 year olds are in charge of the economy!

Who died and made the 18-24 y.o. male the king anyway? I bet I'm not the only woman incensed with the adolescent sexualization of our culture.

What was the BK CMO smoking when he had this "brilliant idea"?? It's hard for me to even begin to rant against this campaign, which believe me I can do very well on most occasions, because it is so very bizarre, and not in a funny, hip kind of way.
And I found it quite telling that Burger King DOES NOT allow you to contact them by email...
All I can say is to quote my five year old son, who got this from some movie:
"Burger King, two words: SHUT, UP!"

It would probably work a lot better in French-speaking countries... where a) le coq is kind of a strong cultural icon, and b) the specific nomenclature doesn't flirt with people's sensibilities. ;)

yeah, it's obvious they tried too hard on this new "campaign". how incredibly retarded is the commercial where the "coqs" try to cross the road?

"how clever are we? when the band leader makes it all the way to the girl across the street, she'll be on her knees just as the guy gets right in front of her so that when she gets up, for a split second she'll be 2 inches away from his cock!!!!1 aren't we edgy??!! burgor king is so cool and smart!!"

btw, this is only one of the disturbing trends in recent years. remember how in the past bk and mcdonalds tried insanely hard to make their image look squeeky clean, wholesome, and fun? there was not even a single hint of sexual innuendo in their campaigns, and now you can't throw a cat without hitting a teenaged-aimed sexual theme in a burger commercial. i'm glad we now have a medium to call them out on their bullsh|t.
